If you’ve been keeping your eye on Black Myth: Wukong, you’ve probably heard the hype. Let me just say... this game is straight up dope. It’s no surprise it snagged a GOTY nomination with its stunning graphics, fantastic combat, and beautiful art. Let's break it down!

First Impressions

From the moment you boot it up, it’s clearly a Soulslike game. The graphics? Chef’s kiss. Even on a basic rig with low resolution, the game still looks good. And let’s talk about the lighting, it's immersive and downright beautiful.

But graphics alone don’t make a game. What really drew me in was the feel. The combat is so smooth and satisfying, you're practically dancing along with the beautiful traditional Chinese instrumentals. And the dodge mechanic? Easily one of the best features in the game. It’s responsive, fluid, and just feels right. Seriously, I can't find much to complain about.

Combat, Gameplay & Story

The gameplay shines. Every fight feels like a puzzle, demanding strategy and skill without being overly punishing. Whenever my inner Souls side wished the enemies were a bit harder to take down... BAM it delivers. And somehow without it being grueling.

Let's talk about those boss fights! Right from the start, the Wandering Wight (aka "Fat Baby") ...easily the hardest fight as you're learning the controls, but the reward? You get to channel his baby tantrums as an attack skill. We love to admit... sometimes it just feels great to break stuff.

That said, I have to call out one thing... Wukong’s voice. Not a fan. It’s minor, I know. But hey, I'm always dubbing over everything LIVE with my own voice overs!

Also, the "cultivate spirits" feature is another standout. You can switch spirits on the fly and upgrade them, making each battle a customizable experience. It adds depth and strategy to the game, and honestly, building up your foundational skills early on is key to enjoying these fights.

Final Thoughts

Black Myth: Wukong is a stunning achievement. From its gorgeous visuals and immersive world to its intricate combat and clever mechanics, it’s clear why it’s being rated a masterpiece. And really though, my favorite part of this game is that the enemies are not just obstacles, they’re gorgeous works of art, each designed with incredible detail and personality.

Overall, the storytelling is seamless and the progression is so natural. Every thoughtful detail really pulls you in effortlessly and you don't even mind having to get right back up again after a defeat.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to channeling Fat Baby’s tantrums and dodging like a pro.

 Catch you on the streams,
